Captain Chaz Heller
Captain Chaz Heller has been fishing salty waters his entire life and can be found most days’ offshore on his vessel the F/V Got’m. His early years were spent fishing the Chesapeake Bay and Outer Banks off North Carolina, while the last 20 years he has spent fishing the Gulf of Mexico.
These days he primarily fishes out of Pensacola, Florida, but some years he runs tuna trips out of Venice, Louisiana during the winter months. In addition to fishing he enjoys spending time with his wife and two dogs, duck hunting, and building custom rods.
Pensacola is known for its spectacular bottom fishing and that’s what you’ll find Captain Chaz doing day in and day out. Red snapper, gag grouper, triggerfish, amberjack, scamp, and vermillion snapper are all likely catches while on a charter with Got’m and Pensacola Fishing Charters.
While bottom fishing may be his bread and butter, its other types of fishing that always keeps Captain Chaz excited about his next adventure. He was one of the first people to target swordfish during the day in the Northern Gulf of Mexico and is always up for making a trip to the deep water rigs in search of yellowfin tuna or wahoo.
Captain Chaz and his wife, Robin, started a nonprofit organization SEASTARS in 2004. SEASTARS is an acronym for Supporting Education and Athletic Skills Through Amateur and Recreational Swimming. Currently, Robin runs the nonprofit while Captain Chaz operates Got’m Fishing Charters.
